Originally a short Manga in "The Lion Books," it was made into an animated series. The chief character, Jess, fights to bring down the dictator of the federation of the Earth and other planets, but is arrested by the federal authorities and sent to a penal colony planet. The story focuses on him, using Japanese Noh drama "Kurozuka" as a motif.

Where it came from
Adachi-ga Hara is a short animated film produced by Tezuka Productions in 1991, serving as a distinct adaptation of the Japanese folk legend of the same name. The narrative draws from the chilling story of the demon Kurozuka, set against a haunting, post-apocalyptic backdrop. It was created as part of an experimental anthology project, aiming to blend traditional Japanese folklore with the futuristic aesthetic often associated with late 20th-century anime production.
The film is notable for its deliberate, atmospheric direction and art style, which differs significantly from the more rounded, energetic character designs typically associated with Osamu Tezuka’s earlier works. By stripping away standard comedic tropes, the production team sought to emphasize a sense of profound melancholy and isolation. Upon its release, it was recognized for its technical craftsmanship and its commitment to a darker, more mature tone within the medium of animation.
