Where it came from
Active Raid Second serves as the concluding chapter of the original mecha television anime series Active Raid, produced by the studio Production IMS. The series was conceptualized during a mid-2010s climate of experimental police-procedural anime, aiming to blend high-stakes futuristic law enforcement with character-driven workplace drama. It was directed by Noriaki Akitaya, who sought to refine the narrative structure established in the first season by deepening the lore surrounding the Willwear powered suits and the escalating conflict with the antagonist organization, Logos.
The production design leaned into a vibrant, high-contrast aesthetic that emphasized the agile nature of the combat suits, distinguishing the series from more traditional, heavier mecha designs. Despite the creative intent to present a polished, fast-paced police action show, the series received mixed reception upon its 2016 release. Critics often noted the ambitious scope of its world-building, though the complex plot and shifts in tone were frequently discussed as points of contention for viewers navigating the show's dual-cour structure.
