After School Dice Club

After School Dice Club originated as a manga series by Nakamichi Hiroo before being adapted into a 2019 television anime by studio LIDENFILMS. The series was produced to highlight the growing tabletop gaming subculture in Japan, focusing on a group of high school students who discover the hobby at a local game shop. By centering the narrative on the social dynamics of playing board games, the series aimed to make the tabletop experience accessible and inviting to a wider anime audience.

The character designs and animation direction sought to balance a standard slice-of-life aesthetic with the specific mechanics and visual flair of various real-world board games. The production team collaborated with actual game publishers to feature authentic titles, ensuring that the gameplay segments felt grounded and accurate. Upon its release, the series was well-received by hobbyists for its sincere portrayal of game nights and its effectiveness as an introduction to the diversity of modern board gaming.
