Where it came from
Aftermath, released in 2020, stands as the eleventh studio album by the American rapper Eminem. Following the surprise drop of his previous record, the album serves as a continuation of his exploration into mature themes, technical lyrical density, and the evolving landscape of hip-hop. It was produced under the Shady Records imprint, maintaining the hallmark aggressive production style and intricate rhyme schemes that have defined the artist's career since the late 1990s.
The album's conceptual framework reflects a retrospective look at the artist's own legacy within the industry. Critics noted the project's dedication to high-speed delivery and complex wordplay, which were intended to challenge contemporary trends in mumble rap and trap music. While reception varied, it remains a notable entry in his discography for its commitment to traditional lyricism and its synthesis of past and present production aesthetics.
