Aikatsu Friends!: Kagayaki no Jewel

Aikatsu Friends!: Kagayaki no Jewel serves as the second season of the Aikatsu Friends! series, produced by Bandai Namco Pictures and released in 2019. It was developed to continue the multimedia project's focus on the idol industry, building upon the established themes of friendship and competition introduced in the first season. The narrative transition into the Jewel series was designed to shift the stakes for the characters, introducing the Jewel Dress mechanic and new antagonists to evolve the competitive structure of the franchise.

The visual design and character direction were overseen by the production team at Bandai Namco Pictures, who sought to maintain the bright, polished aesthetic synonymous with the Aikatsu brand while integrating the new sparkling, gem-themed motifs. Critical reception focused on its adherence to the core values of the franchise, specifically its emphasis on character development and the collaborative nature of its idol protagonist groups, cementing its place as a staple of the late 2010s magical idol anime genre.
