Where it came from
Akage no Anne: Green Gables e no Michi, released in 2010, serves as a cinematic compilation of the iconic 1979 anime series Anne of Green Gables. Produced by Nippon Animation, this film was created to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the original television series, which is widely regarded as a cornerstone of the World Masterpiece Theater collection.
The 1979 series was famously directed by Isao Takahata, with character designs by Hayao Miyazaki before he co-founded Studio Ghibli. The 2010 film condenses the emotional narrative of Lucy Maud Montgomery’s novel into a feature-length format, retaining the meticulous backgrounds and pastoral aesthetic that defined the original production's critical acclaim and enduring influence on Japanese animation.
