Where it came from
Amagami SS: Sister is a collection of OVA episodes released in 2011, serving as a direct follow-up to the 2010 anime adaptation of the popular dating simulation game developed by Enterbrain. Produced by Studio AIC, these episodes were designed to provide additional, character-focused narratives that expanded upon the branching storylines established in the original series. The production aimed to maintain the gentle, romantic atmosphere of the source material while exploring specific character dynamics that were not fully realized in the primary television run.
The creative direction for these episodes leaned heavily into the established character designs of the franchise, which focus on distinct, archetypal personas meant to appeal to the game’s fanbase. By maintaining the same production staff, the OVAs successfully preserved the visual identity and tone of the original broadcast. Upon release, the series was received primarily by existing fans as a welcome supplemental experience, valued for its commitment to the established canon and its focus on deepening the relationships featured in the source game.
