An Jie Shen Shi

An Jie Shen Shi, or The Guardian, was produced by Coastline Animation Studio as a showcase of high-end 3D character animation. Released as an ONA in the late 2010s, it emerged during a period when Chinese animation studios were aggressively transitioning from traditional 2D workflows to sophisticated digital rendering techniques, aiming to compete with international industry standards in both visual fidelity and narrative depth.

The project was designed to demonstrate Coastline’s technical prowess in facial rigging and atmospheric lighting. By focusing on fluid movement and nuanced character expressions, the studio sought to distance itself from the stiff aesthetic that had previously characterized much of the domestic 3D output. Upon its release, the work received positive attention from industry critics who highlighted the improved texture mapping and intentional cinematic composition as a benchmark for future projects in the studio's portfolio.
