Angel Links

Angel Links was produced by the animation studio Sunrise and released in 1999 as a direct spin-off of the popular space opera Outlaw Star. The series was developed to expand upon the corporate and futuristic universe established by its predecessor, focusing on the protagonist Meilin Kee, who operates a private security firm tasked with protecting space commerce from piracy. It reflects the aesthetic sensibilities of late 1990s Japanese animation, blending hard science fiction elements with a character-driven narrative.

The production sought to maintain the visual consistency of the Outlaw Star franchise while shifting the thematic tone toward high-stakes corporate espionage and action-adventure. Critics and audiences of the era noted the show's departure from the swashbuckling tone of its parent series, often analyzing it as a more structured, methodical exploration of the franchise's world-building. Though it remains a niche entry in the Sunrise catalog, it is recognized for its sleek mechanical designs and the signature style that characterized the studio's output during the late nineties.
