Angelique Limoges and Rosalia de Catargena have been chosen as candidates in a Queen Examination - a test to see who is better qualified to be the next Queen of the cosmos. For this special examination, both girls are given their own continent on a planet. The girls must raise the continents into thriving civilizations and environments. Nine Guardians (who control various elements, such as fire, wind, and water) have been chosen to help the girls raise their continents during the Queen Examination.

Where it came from
The Angelique OVA series, released in 2004 by Yumeta Company, is an adaptation of the pioneering 'otome' game franchise created by Koei. Originally released in 1994, the Angelique series is widely credited with establishing the romance simulation genre for female players, centering on a young girl chosen as a candidate for the throne of the cosmos. The animation sought to translate the game's intricate character designs and celestial themes into a serialized format, capturing the whimsical and high-stakes environment of the game's Queen-selection trials.
The production leans heavily on the visual language of shojo anime from the early 2000s, utilizing a soft, pastel-inflected aesthetic to mirror the romantic fantasy tone of the source material. By 2004, the franchise had already developed a dedicated fan base across Japan, and the OVA was intended to revitalize interest in the series alongside newer game installments. While it faced the common challenges of adapting a branching narrative game into a linear visual story, it remains a notable entry in the broader library of Koei's multimedia storytelling efforts.
