Where it came from
Angelique: Seichi yori Ai wo Komete, released in 2001, serves as an original video animation entry in the long-running Angelique franchise, which originated as the first female-oriented dating simulation game developed by Koei. Produced by Yumeta Company, this installment was created to expand upon the rich, cosmic narrative of the series, wherein the protagonist must cultivate a continent to become the next queen of the cosmos.
The animation reflects the distinctive shojo aesthetic common to the era, prioritizing the intricate character designs and romantic tension essential to the Neo Romance genre. While the series maintains a dedicated following among fans of otome-style media, the 2001 ova is recognized primarily as a transitional piece that sought to bridge the gap between the game's interactive roots and the growing demand for episodic narrative adaptations.
