Comedy spin-off to the Araiguma Rascal (Raccoon Rascal) anime.
The story is set around five employees working hard in the lesser Tama branch of a secret society aiming for world domination called the Calcal Group: an aspirational new recruit, a polite but self-conscious superior, a modern guy with a cold attitude to everything, a hotheaded but kind senior employee and a handsome older man leading the pack.

Where it came from
Araiguma Calcal-dan was produced by Nippon Animation in 2025 as a contemporary reimagining of the studio's long-standing legacy in character-driven storytelling. Building upon the aesthetic traditions established by the World Masterpiece Theater series, the production aims to blend traditional cel-style charm with modern digital animation techniques. It was conceived as a lighthearted series centered on group dynamics and exploration, reflecting the studio's interest in maintaining its niche for wholesome, family-oriented content in a crowded global media landscape.
The character design and visual direction emphasize a nostalgic, soft-edged art style intended to appeal to both long-time fans of the studio's 1970s and 80s output and new viewers seeking relaxed narratives. By utilizing a distinct, illustrative approach to the lead characters, the creative team sought to create an immediately recognizable brand identity. Upon its release, the series was received as a gentle, low-stakes entry in the studio's modern portfolio, noted primarily for its dedication to the studio's historical emphasis on environmental and pastoral themes.
