Where it came from
Votoms Finder was released in 2010 as a two-part original video animation, serving as an experimental spin-off within the long-running Armored Trooper Votoms franchise. Produced by Sunrise to commemorate the series' legacy, it reimagines the iconic mecha designs and gritty atmosphere of the original 1983 show within an alternate setting, moving away from the established Uoodo or Melkya conflicts to focus on the world of scavenger culture.
The animation was directed by Yasunori Ide, who sought to blend the classic industrial aesthetic of Ryosuke Takahashi’s original vision with a more contemporary, sleek visual language. While the project was appreciated by some fans for its willingness to take risks with the franchise's rigid lore, it received a mixed reception from purists who preferred the traditional political drama and grounded warfare of the earlier installments.
