Art of Yoh Yoshinari: Rough Sketches - Tezuka Characters

Released as part of a tribute exhibition and subsequent publication cycle, this collection focuses on the raw, kinetic energy of Yoh Yoshinari’s character studies. Yoshinari, a celebrated animator known for his distinctively fluid and expressive style at Studio Trigger, reimagined iconic characters from Osamu Tezuka’s legendary body of work. The sketches were produced to honor Tezuka’s centennial and influence, aiming to bridge the gap between classic manga aesthetics and the high-energy, modern sensibilities of contemporary anime design.

The design philosophy behind these sketches prioritizes the 'rough' over the polished; they serve as a testament to Yoshinari's meticulous process of finding character silhouette and movement. Critics and animation historians have praised the collection for its ability to maintain the soul of Tezuka’s original designs while injecting the unmistakable, jagged, and hyper-dynamic flair that defines Yoshinari’s own creative signature. It is widely viewed by industry professionals as both a study in character anatomy and a poignant stylistic dialogue between two generations of Japanese animation giants.
