Where it came from
Bai Yao Pu: Luoyang Pian, known in English as Fairies Albums: Luoyang Chapter, is a Chinese original net animation produced by Bilibili. It serves as a continuation of the popular fantasy series based on the light novels by Sha Luo Shuang Shu, which focus on the journey of a spirit doctor named Tao Yao who traverses ancient China healing supernatural creatures. The series is rooted in traditional Chinese folklore and explores themes of karma, empathy, and the hidden struggles of mythical entities.
The visual design of the Luoyang chapter maintains the studio's characteristic blend of ethereal, painterly aesthetic and traditional cultural motifs. It was developed to capture the atmosphere of the Tang Dynasty, emphasizing intricate costume details and soft, evocative lighting to distinguish the supernatural elements from the mundane world. Upon release, the series was received as a nuanced addition to the franchise, praised by fans of the source material for its faithful adaptation of the author's bittersweet narrative style and its continued commitment to high-quality digital animation.
