Where it came from
Baja's Studio was produced by Kyoto Animation in 2017 as a short original video animation based on a children's picture book written by the studio's own director, Yasuhiro Takemoto. The project emerged during a period when the studio was exploring internal creative ventures, serving as a heartfelt tribute to the bond between pets and their human companions while showcasing the studio's signature attention to environmental detail and expressive character animation.
The animation was helmed by Yoshiji Kigami, a veteran director and mentor at Kyoto Animation known for his meticulous approach to movement and composition. The visual style reflects the studio's commitment to traditional craft, utilizing a gentle, vibrant color palette that captures the imaginative world of a small house cat. Upon its release, the work was received as a charming, self-contained piece of animation that highlighted the studio's technical proficiency and dedication to intimate storytelling.
