Where it came from
Bakegyamon, also known as Bakukyuu Hit!! Bakegyamon, was produced by Studio Radix and aired in 2006. The series is based on the manga created by Kazuhiro Fujita and Mitsuhisa Tamura, emerging during a period when supernatural battle anime, heavily influenced by the success of the Pokémon and Yu-Gi-Oh! franchises, were a staple of children's afternoon programming in Japan.
The character designs and visual world-building were crafted to evoke a blend of traditional Japanese folklore and modern competitive gaming elements. While the series was intended to capture the imagination of young viewers through its unique take on yokai-battling mechanics, it remained a niche title in the broader landscape of 2000s anime, primarily remembered for its distinctive aesthetic and the creative input of established manga creators.
