Where it came from
Released in 1997, Bakusou Kyoudai Let's & Go!! WGP Bousou Mini Yonku Daitsuiseki serves as the first feature film adaptation of the popular Bakusou Kyoudai Let's & Go!! franchise. Produced by Xebec, the film was conceived to capitalize on the massive commercial success of Tamiya's Mini 4WD hobby boom in Japan during the late 1990s. The narrative expands the series' premise, focusing on a global racing tournament that brings together characters from the animated series to face a series of high-stakes challenges.
The film's visual identity remains deeply rooted in the aesthetic established by Tetsuhiro Koshita’s original manga, which emphasized the technical dynamics of custom racing machines. Directed by Tetsurō Amino, the production aimed to bridge the gap between the televised series and a cinematic experience by elevating the race sequences through more elaborate animation. Upon release, it was received primarily as a celebratory expansion of the existing intellectual property, strengthening the bond between the media franchise and the underlying toy culture that sustained its popularity.
