Where it came from
Released in 2011 as a special animation, Beelzebub: Sakigake!! Beel to Shinsengumi originated from the popular supernatural comedy manga series written and illustrated by Ryuhei Tamura. Produced by Studio Signpost, this special was featured at the Jump Super Anime Tour, a prestigious event series dedicated to showcasing original animation content based on hit titles from Weekly Shonen Jump magazine.
The narrative takes a playful approach to the series' premise, transporting the delinquent protagonist Tatsumi Oga and the infant demon prince Beelzebub into a historical setting inspired by the Shinsengumi of the Bakumatsu period. The design and direction maintained the high-energy, comedic aesthetic established by the television series, focusing on chaotic character interactions and exaggerated visual gags intended to entertain fans of the original manga during the touring promotional event.
