Yuu Koito thought love would be something amazing and magical, but when a male friend asks her to date, she feels nothing. She doesn't even know how to respond until she overhears the student council president of her new high school, Touko Nanami, turning down a similar request. With Touko's help, Yuu manages to let her friend down gracefully, but then Touko confesses that she, herself, is starting to have feelings for Yuu, leaving Yuu in a quandary. Yuu doesn't think that she's in love with Touko, but she does feel something. As Yuu joins the Student Council, and she and Touko become closer, her confusion about her feelings only continues to grow. Because you can't control who you love, or who falls in love with you.

Where it came from
Bloom Into You originated as a celebrated manga series by Nio Nakatani before being adapted into a thirteen-episode television anime by studio TROYCA in 2018. Directed by Makoto Katō, the production was conceived as a deliberate departure from typical genre tropes, focusing on the nuanced, internal psychological development of its lead characters, Yuu Koito and Touko Nanami, rather than external melodrama. The project sought to capture the contemplative and fragile atmosphere of Nakatani’s original work, utilizing a muted, elegant color palette and deliberate pacing to mirror the protagonists' journey toward self-discovery and intimacy.
The series was released during a period of shifting expectations for the romance genre, and it was widely praised by critics and viewers alike for its respectful, sincere portrayal of queer identity and its refusal to rely on sensationalism. The design direction, led by art director Chikako Shibata and character designer Hiroaki Gohda, was noted for its emphasis on architectural space and character body language to convey emotional states. Its reception solidified its status as a landmark title in contemporary romance anime, frequently highlighted for its mature narrative approach and artistic consistency.
