Where it came from
Burning Kabaddi was released in 2021 as a television anime adaptation of the long-running manga series by Musashino Hajime, which first began serialization in 2015. The production was handled by TMS Entertainment, a veteran studio known for its extensive history in the medium. The series was designed to introduce a broader audience to the high-intensity, strategic sport of kabaddi, focusing on its blend of physical endurance and psychological team maneuvers.
The adaptation was directed by Kazuya Ichikawa, who aimed to emphasize the kinetic energy of the sport through dynamic animation sequences and a focus on character growth. The series was generally well-received by fans of sports anime for its refreshing departure from more mainstream subjects like soccer or basketball, offering a technical look at a niche sport while maintaining the traditional shonen elements of camaraderie and competitive ambition.
