Busou Chuugakusei: Basket Army

Busou Chuugakusei: Basket Army emerged in 2011 as a multimedia project produced by the studio Asread. The narrative centers on a group of junior high students in a near-future Japan who find themselves caught in a high-stakes military conflict, blending slice-of-life elements with intense tactical action. It was developed to explore the juxtaposition of adolescent vulnerability and the burden of advanced combat technology, reflecting a broader thematic interest in the school-girl-with-guns subgenre that became prominent in Japanese animation during the early 2010s.

The character designs were handled by the illustrator AKIRA, whose style is known for balancing minimalist aesthetic sensibilities with detailed mechanical gear. As a web-based ONA (Original Net Animation) series, the project was part of an experimental wave of content distributed primarily through digital platforms to reach niche audiences. While the series was noted for its sharp visual direction and the collaboration between various creators, it remained a specialized title that served as a showcase for the studio's capacity to deliver gritty, short-form action narratives.
