Takakage is troubled by a strange dream, seemingly of a former life as a soldier in the Sengoku Era of Japan. In that life, he loved the miko Ayame, though their love was doomed by war. Now, in this life, he is given a prophecy that he will meet the woman of his dreams.
Takakage, a college student, has been having strange dreams lately. In them, a young shrine priestess named Ayame promises to marry a young, look-alike soldier named Genshiro the night before he is sent to battle. Takakage finds a maiden who looks like the woman from his dreams. With the help of her, his sister, and his fortune-telling friend, he seeks to find the answers of what their, and his, true origins lay.

Where it came from
Released in 2000, Campus is an original video animation (OVA) produced by the studio Y.O.U.C. It emerged during a period of prolific independent animation production in Japan, where studios often focused on niche experimental narratives that pushed the boundaries of character design and aesthetic tone. As an OVA, the work was designed for direct-to-consumer home media release rather than television broadcast, allowing the creative team more freedom in thematic exploration.
The design and direction of Campus reflect the stylistic sensibilities common to turn-of-the-millennium digital animation, characterized by a transition from traditional cel-based techniques to early computerized compositing. The production prioritized a specific atmospheric mood intended to resonate with fans of the late nineties underground anime scene. While it remains a deep-cut title within the medium’s vast history, it is noted by collectors as a representative example of Y.O.U.C's brief but distinct output during the era.
