Hikaru is at first sight a student like others but actually it is a super hero defending the Earth of the demons. He has a powerful super bike and a combat suit. Inspired by the classic Space Sheriff (Uchuu Keiji) trilogy of the Metal Heroes Tokusatsu franchise, namely Space Sheriff's Gavan and Sharivan.

Where it came from
Campus Special Investigator Hikaruon was released in 1987 as an original video animation (OVA) produced by AIC. Emerging during the late 1980s boom in the home video market, the title sought to blend the popular high school setting with elements of science fiction and supernatural mystery, a common thematic fusion for Japanese animation at the time.
The character designs were handled by Teruhisa Yamaguchi, who aimed to provide a polished aesthetic consistent with the studio's output during that era. While the production serves as a representative example of the era's experimentation with standalone direct-to-video storytelling, it remains a niche entry in AIC's extensive portfolio, noted primarily by collectors for its specific stylistic leanings within the 1980s OVA movement.
