Cardfight!! Vanguard G Next

Cardfight!! Vanguard G Next, released in 2016, represents the third season of the G series in the long-running Cardfight!! Vanguard anime franchise. Produced by studio OLM, the series was created to bridge the narrative gap between the previous G arcs and the evolving competitive meta of the trading card game. It focuses on the protagonist Chrono Shindou and his transition into the U20 Championship, a high-stakes tournament format that emphasized team dynamics and strategic depth for a growing international audience.

The visual direction for G Next was influenced by the need to showcase the game's new mechanics while maintaining the high-energy, shonen-inspired aesthetic established by the franchise. OLM focused on integrating 2D character animation with stylized 3D card battle sequences, a hallmark of the series' production style. While received primarily as a promotional vehicle for the physical card game, the series was praised by fans for its focus on character development and the introduction of a more tactical, team-oriented narrative structure.
