Where it came from
Cat Planet Cuties, known in Japan as Asobi ni Iku yo!, originated as a light novel series written by Okina Kamino. Produced by the studio AIC and released as a television anime series in 2010, the project aimed to blend the classic harem and science fiction genres. The story follows a young man who encounters an alien visitor, a theme that draws heavily upon popular light novel tropes of the era that prioritize lighthearted character interactions and comedic misunderstandings.
The character designs were handled by the studio’s animation team with an aesthetic intended to maximize the visual appeal of the extraterrestrial cast members, specifically the cat-eared Catian race. While the series garnered attention for its bright color palette and quintessential 2010s aesthetic, it was received as a niche entry within the broader landscape of late-night broadcast anime, primarily finding its audience among enthusiasts of the ecchi and science fiction subgenres.
