In a city filled with anthropomorphic cat-people, Catman lives free of rules and boundaries, doing everything he wants, which often collides with the other iinhabitants of the city. Created entirely in flash, with no spoken dialog, Catman instead speaks in English and Japanese subtitles. The series is spread across three so-called 'seasons', with only the third having been aired.

Where it came from
The Catman Series III, released in 2008, serves as a continuation of the experimental animation shorts produced by Fuji TV. The series was designed to showcase minimalist, surreal storytelling within the constraints of brief, non-narrative vignettes. It emerged from a period of artistic exploration at the studio, where producers sought to blend traditional Japanese aesthetic sensibilities with a modern, lo-fi digital art style.
The series was directed and illustrated by a small creative team focusing on the titular character, an enigmatic, cat-like figure who navigates absurd urban landscapes. The design choice leaned heavily into stark line work and a limited color palette to evoke a sense of quiet isolation. Upon release, the series gained a modest following for its unconventional pacing and atmospheric sound design, becoming a notable example of late-2000s Japanese web-to-television experimental animation.
