Cat Tales

Cat Tales is a 2025 original net animation produced by Kodansha, emerging as part of the studio's broader initiative to adapt popular web-based illustrated content into short-form digital media. Developed during a period of increased experimentation in the streaming landscape, the series was designed to emphasize visual storytelling and atmospheric sound design over traditional narrative arcs, aiming to capture a younger, digitally native audience that prefers concise, episodic vignettes.

The animation style draws heavily from the minimalist aesthetic common in modern digital art, prioritizing fluid character movement and soft, desaturated palettes. While the creative direction was handled by an in-house team at Kodansha, the project reflects a deliberate move toward a more curated, boutique animation style intended for mobile viewing. Upon its release, it was met with appreciation for its calming tone and technical precision, positioning it as a distinct entry within the studio's diverse portfolio of contemporary works.
