Cat's Eye Season 2

Cat's Eye, the popular manga series by Tsukasa Hojo, was adapted into a television anime by Tokyo Movie Shinsha starting in 1983. The second season, which premiered in 1984, continued the adventures of the Kisugi sisters, who balance their lives as owners of a cafe with their nocturnal activities as a trio of art thieves. The series was significant for its focus on the dynamic, high-stakes relationship between the sisters and Hitomi's boyfriend, Toshio Utsumi, a detective tasked with capturing the very thieves he loves.

The character designs for the animation were overseen by Akio Sugino, who sought to capture the sleek, fashion-forward aesthetic of Hojo’s original artwork while ensuring the fluid movement required for an action-oriented heist series. This season leaned further into the comedic and romantic elements that had made the manga a standout in the Shonen Jump lineup. Upon its release, the series was well-regarded for its upbeat soundtrack and the distinct visual identity provided by the Tokyo Movie Shinsha team, cementing its place as a quintessential example of 1980s Japanese pop culture animation.
