Chaos Dragon

Chaos Dragon is a 2015 television anime series produced by the studio SILVER LINK, working in collaboration with Connect. The project originated from a tabletop role-playing session titled Red Dragon, which was recorded and published in 2012. This unique source material involved prominent figures in the Japanese light novel and gaming industry, including Gen Urobuchi, Kinoko Nasu, and Ryohgo Narita, who gathered to build the world and characters through guided narrative play.

The anime adaptation aimed to translate this collaborative storytelling experiment into a high-fantasy framework, focusing on the war-torn island of Nil Kamui. In its design and production, the series emphasized a dramatic, political aesthetic, seeking to balance the spontaneous nature of its tabletop roots with a serialized narrative structure. Upon its release, the series became known for its complex lore and ambitious world-building, though it was received with mixed critical attention regarding how effectively the ensemble narrative translated into its television format.
