Chinetsu Karte: The Devilish Cherry

Chinetsu Karte: The Devilish Cherry was produced in 2009 by Studio Suzuki Mirano as a niche original video animation. It emerged during a period in the late 2000s when independent animation studios were increasingly experimenting with stylized, atmospheric storytelling formats intended for direct-to-video distribution. The project sought to blend surrealist character design with psychological themes, positioning itself within the subgenre of boutique independent anime rather than mainstream commercial productions.

The visual direction for the OVA was led by the studio's in-house team, who focused on a muted color palette and deliberate, slow-paced staging to evoke a sense of unease. While the work remains relatively obscure within the broader anime landscape, it is frequently cited by collectors of early 21st-century experimental animation for its unconventional narrative structure. Its reception was largely confined to specialized critical circles and domestic enthusiasts who valued the studio's focus on artistic atmosphere over traditional action-oriented tropes.
