Chinpui: Eri-sama Katsudou Daishashin

Chinpui: Eri-sama Katsudou Daishashin was produced by Shin-Ei Animation and released in 1990 as a theatrical feature based on the manga series by Fujiko F. Fujio. The franchise follows a young girl named Eri who is visited by a mouse-like alien from the planet Maho, who arrives on Earth to request her hand in marriage for a galactic prince. The film expands upon the narrative themes of the television series, which had premiered just a year earlier, focusing on the comedic friction between suburban Japanese life and intergalactic fantasy.

The production maintains the visual language established by Fujiko F. Fujio's signature style, characterized by soft lines and whimsical character designs that were a staple of the studio's portfolio during that era. It was designed to capitalize on the popularity of the manga, which had been serialized in Shogakukan's children's magazines since the mid-1980s. Upon release, the film was received as a gentle, family-oriented expansion of the Fujio universe, securing its place within the broader canon of late-80s and early-90s Japanese animation directed toward younger demographics.
