Studio Ghibli animated Choujuu-Jinbutsu-Giga Emaki, the famous Japanese "Scrolls of Cartoons of Birds, Animals, and People" or "Choujuu Giga" for short, for a Marubeni Power commercial. The "Encounter" commercial promotes Plan G, a new electric power option that Marubeni Power is offering to homes as Japan deregulates its power industry. The plan derives its name from both "Ghibli" and "green." It promises to support the national trust for "Totoro's Forest," provide power for the Ghibli Museum, and promote conservation in general.

Where it came from
The Choujuu Giga ONA was produced in 2016 by Studio Ghibli as part of a collaborative promotional campaign for the Japanese energy company Marubeni Shin Denryoku. The short film was conceived to bridge the gap between historical Japanese art and contemporary animation, drawing direct inspiration from the 12th and 13th-century Chōjū-giga scrolls, which are widely considered the oldest examples of Japanese manga.
Katsuya Kondo, a longtime Ghibli character designer and animation director, served as the character designer and animation supervisor for the project. His goal was to maintain the whimsical, fluid spirit of the original ink wash illustrations while integrating them into a modern, high-definition aesthetic. The film was well-received by audiences for its respectful homage to classical art and its charming, minimalist storytelling.
