Because of that, Wataru's heart of justice and his memories of being Kyuuseishu (world savior) vanished. After Shibaraku and Himiko brought him back to Shinbukai (the "other" world, where Soukaizan is located), Wataru regained his memories, however his conscience was still missing. To get it back, Kyuuseishu Wataru must return to fight the devils, rescuing all of Soukaizan from catastrophe!

Where it came from
Chou Mashin Eiyuuden Wataru debuted in 1997 as the third television installment in the long-running Mashin Eiyuuden Wataru franchise produced by Sunrise. Following the success of the original 1988 series and its 1990 sequel, this iteration sought to modernize the fantasy-adventure formula by incorporating updated mecha designs and a heightened sense of high-fantasy stakes while retaining the core premise of a young boy summoned to save the magical realm of Soukaizan.
The creative direction for this series leaned heavily into the aesthetics established by character designer Akemi Takada and the mechanical sensibilities of the Sunrise team. While the series arrived during a period of transition for mecha anime, it remained faithful to the franchise's whimsical, RPG-inspired roots. It was received as a nostalgic return to form for fans of the late 80s series, though it faced the challenges of a crowded anime market in the late 90s, ultimately serving as a significant chapter in the legacy of the Wataru brand.
