Where it came from
Chou Kidou Gaiku: KASHIWA-NO-HA was produced in 2015 as a promotional original net animation for the Kashiwa-no-ha Smart City project. Commissioned by Mitsui Fudosan, the short was designed to showcase the urban development and high-tech infrastructure of the Kashiwa-no-ha area in Chiba Prefecture, Japan, effectively acting as a blend of corporate branding and narrative world-building.
The production leans into the aesthetic of futuristic mecha and science fiction, utilizing the sleek, integrated architectural style of the real-world location as a backdrop. By framing the smart city through the lens of high-mobility animation, the creators aimed to present the development as a forward-thinking, harmonious community. It was received primarily as a niche curiosity within the architectural and local government promotional spheres, noted for its high-production-value attempt to make city planning visually compelling for a younger, tech-savvy demographic.
