City Hunter '91

City Hunter '91 stands as the final television iteration of Tsukasa Hojo’s long-running manga series, produced by Sunrise and aired in 1991. Following the conclusion of the previous series, this production sought to condense the action-comedy format into a tighter, more episodic structure while retaining the signature blend of Ryo Saeba’s professional competence as a sweeper and his persistent comedic obsession with women.

The series continued the visual language established by the earlier adaptations, leaning into a distinct late-Showa and early-Heisei aesthetic that balanced gritty urban environments with slapstick humor. While it was the shortest of the televised chapters, it remains highly regarded among fans of the franchise for its consistent animation quality and for staying true to the character dynamics that defined Hojo’s original work, cementing the series' legacy as a staple of 1980s and 90s action-comedy anime.
