Included in the 8th and final DVD of Clannad ~After Story~ is an extra episode set in an alternate universe. Here, Fujibayashi Kyou is the main heroine in place of Furukawa Nagisa.
Love can be wonderfully exciting, but also extremely painful. Fujibayashi Ryou, Kyou's sister, is in love with Okazaki Tomoya, the male protagonist. With the help of Kyou, Ryou manages to sum up the courage to ask him out and now Tomoya and Ryou are a couple. However, as things progress, Kyou begins to acknowledge her feelings for Tomoya, and a love-triangle is formed.
As everything is revealed, the sisters learn the pains of love and try to decide between the two loves of their life: Tomoya, or each other.

Where it came from
Clannad: Another World, Kyou Chapter was produced by Kyoto Animation and released in 2009 as an original video animation accompanying the Clannad After Story Blu-ray box set. This release serves as an alternate-universe story, diverging from the main narrative of the visual novel to explore a specific romantic route centered on the character Kyou Fujibayashi. It was crafted for an audience already deeply invested in the primary series, providing a dedicated conclusion to a subplot that was largely bypassed in the core television adaptation.
The production maintains the visual and emotional style established by director Tatsuya Ishihara during the development of the main Clannad series. By focusing on Kyou’s perspective, the animation team aimed to address fan demand for a more complete character arc that aligned with the branching narrative structures of the original Key visual novel. The work is widely regarded by enthusiasts as a respectful and necessary extension of the franchise, successfully capturing the tonal balance of comedy and melodrama for which the series is known.
