Where it came from
Classroom for Heroes, or Eiyuu Kyoushitsu, originated as a light novel series written by Shin Araki and illustrated by Haruyuki Morisawa before being adapted into this 2023 television anime series. The story centers on Blade, a former hero who surrendered his powers to experience a normal life at the Rosewood Academy, a prestigious institution designed to train the next generation of heroes. This premise taps into the popular fantasy subgenre of super-powered school life, emphasizing character-driven comedy alongside traditional magical action.
The production was handled by the studio Actas, known for its work on titles like Girls und Panzer. Directed by Keiichiro Kawaguchi, the adaptation aimed to balance the lighthearted, high-school hijinks with the underlying mystery of Blade's past. Upon its release, the series was noted for its colorful aesthetic and its light-novel-inspired character designs, though it received mixed critical reception regarding its execution of familiar tropes and its overall pacing within the crowded landscape of modern fantasy anime.
