Where it came from
The Code Geass: Hangyaku no Lelouch DVD Magazine was produced as a supplemental multimedia series following the conclusion of the original anime’s broadcast run. Released to capitalize on the immense popularity of the series, these magazines served as comprehensive companions, pairing printed character analyses and production lore with serialized DVD content that included recaps, character-focused shorts, and interviews with the creators.
The design of the magazine emphasizes the dramatic aesthetic established by the animation team at Sunrise and character designer CLAMP. The visual style aims to reflect the show’s high-stakes political intrigue and supernatural elements, featuring iconic stills and promotional artwork. Upon release, the series was well-received by fans as a high-quality archival tool that provided deeper insight into the creative choices behind the complex narrative of Lelouch vi Britannia.
