Where it came from
The Code Geass: Hangyaku no Lelouch Picture Drama series was produced by Sunrise in 2007 as a supplementary feature released alongside the original anime's DVD volumes. Designed to expand upon the complex narrative of the series, these shorts provided fans with intimate character moments and comedic interludes that deviated from the high-stakes political drama of the primary episodes. They were created to deepen viewer engagement with the sprawling cast during the show's initial broadcast run.
The production utilized the existing character designs by CLAMP, the celebrated manga artist collective, who provided the series with its distinctively stylized and elegant aesthetic. By translating these iconic visuals into a slide-show format accompanied by voice acting from the main cast, the studio sought to maintain the visual continuity of the series while exploring the mundane daily lives of the protagonists. The shorts were generally well-received by the dedicated fanbase, who viewed them as essential companion pieces for character development.
