Where it came from
Code Geass: Nunnally in Wonderland was released in 2012 as an original video animation, serving as a whimsical, non-canonical spin-off to the celebrated Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion series. Produced by Sunrise, the project was conceived as a lighthearted tribute to the franchise, placing the familiar cast of characters into a reimagined version of Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland to celebrate the series' enduring cultural footprint.
The animation features character designs by Takahiro Kimura, who sought to blend the classic, sharp aesthetic of the Code Geass universe with the playful, surreal visual tropes associated with the source material. While the production is distinct from the main narrative arc, it was received by the fanbase as a charming curiosité, noted primarily for its experimental departure from the dark political themes that defined the original television run.
