Where it came from
Cogimyun was created by the Japanese character company Sanrio and debuted in 2017. The character is a small, anthropomorphic piece of wheat flour who suffers from extreme anxiety and a fragile sense of self. Developed during a period when Sanrio was diversifying its portfolio to include more niche, emotionally complex characters, Cogimyun was introduced via a voting contest and quickly gained a dedicated following for its relatable vulnerability.
The 2017 ONA series, produced by the studio Gathering, served as the primary vehicle to establish Cogimyun's personality and world. The animation style is minimalist and soft, reflecting the character's delicate nature and the whimsical, often melancholic tone of the narrative. It was received as a distinct departure from the more cheerful Sanrio icons, finding success as a cult favorite among audiences who appreciated its blend of cuteness and existential humor.
