Coji-Coji

Coji-Coji was created by the celebrated manga artist Momoko Sakura, who is perhaps best known for her long-running series Chibi Maruko-chan. The character originated in the early 1990s before being adapted into a surreal and philosophical animated television series by Aniplex, which premiered in 1997. Sakura designed Coji-Coji as a mysterious, genderless creature living in a fantasy world filled with eccentric beings, using the character to explore themes of existentialism and the nature of life through a whimsical, often absurd lens.

The 1997 television series is distinct for its deceptively simple aesthetic, which belies the sharp, dry wit and unconventional storytelling that characterizes Sakura's work.
