Where it came from
Released in 2006 by Himajin Planning, Color of Sky is an original video animation that emerged during a period of experimentation within the independent anime production sector. It was crafted as a standalone narrative piece, reflecting the studio's focus on intimate, character-driven storytelling rather than the expansive world-building typical of long-running television series. The project sought to explore visual atmosphere and emotional resonance, utilizing a limited animation style to emphasize its dreamlike, contemplative tone.
The production is noted for its minimalist aesthetic and subdued color palette, which align with the artistic sensibilities prominent in mid-2000s experimental shorts. While the work remains a niche entry in the landscape of direct-to-video animation, it is frequently cited by collectors for its departure from mainstream tropes. Its reception was largely characterized by a quiet appreciation for its artistic intent, serving as a subtle testament to the creative freedom afforded to smaller studios during that era.
