Where it came from
Colours is an original net animation produced by Haoliners Animation, a studio known for its role as a bridge between Chinese and Japanese animation industries. Released as a short-form project, it reflects the studio's broader initiative to experiment with various visual styles and narrative structures within the digital streaming space. The project serves as a representative example of the studio's efforts to elevate the quality and artistic ambition of independent ONA productions during a period of rapid expansion for Chinese animation platforms.
The visual design of the series leans into a stylized, atmospheric aesthetic intended to prioritize mood and artistic expression over traditional long-form storytelling. By utilizing a minimalist approach to character movement and an emphasis on a distinct color palette, the designers aimed to evoke a specific emotional resonance with the viewer. Upon its debut, the series was received primarily by niche audiences interested in experimental web animation, finding its place among a growing catalog of short-form digital works that highlight the technical versatility of Haoliners' creative teams.
