Where it came from
Combatants Will Be Dispatched! is a 2021 television anime adaptation based on the light novel series written by Natsume Akatsuki. Produced by the studio J.C.Staff and directed by Hiroaki Akagi, the series was developed to capture the comedic tone and satirical approach to the isekai genre established in Akatsuki’s previous works. The production team focused on maintaining the frenetic energy of the source material, blending high-stakes science fiction elements with the absurdity typical of dark-comedy fantasy narratives.
The character designs were handled by Yuzuha Tsurumaki, who aimed to translate the light novel illustrations into a clean, expressive aesthetic suited for animation. Upon its release, the series received a mixed but generally focused reception, with audiences praising its irreverent humor and subversion of genre tropes, while critics noted the challenge of balancing the specific satirical voice of the original writing with the constraints of a twelve-episode television format.
