Cyberpunk: Edgerunners

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners was produced by the Japanese animation studio Trigger and released on Netflix in 2022. Developed as a standalone original net animation set in the universe of the video game Cyberpunk 2077, the series was conceived to expand upon the lore of Night City. CD Projekt Red collaborated with the studio to bring a distinct visual identity to the project, intending to bridge the gap between the game's tabletop roots and a fast-paced, visceral animated medium.

The series was directed by Hiroyuki Imaishi, who utilized Studio Trigger's signature hyper-kinetic animation style to reflect the frantic, neon-drenched aesthetic of the Cyberpunk genre. Character designs were spearheaded by Yoh Yoshinari, who focused on balancing utilitarian, high-tech fashion with expressive, emotive silhouettes. Upon release, the series received widespread critical acclaim for its narrative depth and technical production, eventually leading to a renewed interest in the source video game.
