Where it came from
DAKAICHI -I'm being harassed by the sexiest man of the year- originated as a popular manga series by Hashigo Sakurabi, which CloverWorks adapted into a twelve-episode television series in 2018. The narrative centers on the cutthroat professional rivalry and burgeoning romance between veteran actor Takato Saijo and the rising newcomer Junta Azumaya. Set against the backdrop of the Japanese entertainment industry, the series explores the power dynamics and public perception inherent in idol and acting culture.
The animation studio CloverWorks, having recently branched off from A-1 Pictures, took on the production to capture the character-driven aesthetic of Sakurabi's work. The design team focused on maintaining the expressive, high-contrast visual style found in the source material, emphasizing the contrasting personalities of the two leads. Upon its broadcast, the series resonated with fans of the Boys' Love genre for its comedic timing and character chemistry, leading to further entries in the franchise, including a 2021 feature film.
