Ritsuka Tachibana has always been a good student, so she is completely shocked when she is suddenly summoned by the student council. And that's only the beginning; from there, her life is turned upside down as her mother gets kidnapped and Ritsuka gets drawn into a world of vampires and devils. Where it came from
Dance with Devils was produced by Brain's Base and aired in 2015 as an original anime project, later branching into various media including manga and stage adaptations. The series is notable for its unconventional structure as a musical, integrating character songs directly into the narrative to advance the plot rather than using them solely for performance sequences. This creative choice was intended to lean into the romantic and gothic aesthetic central to the series.
The character designs were handled by Hirotaka Maeda, who sought to blend the classic bishounen archetype with sharper, more dramatic silhouettes suitable for the dark fantasy setting. While the show was praised for its bold experimental approach to the musical format and its high-energy soundtrack, critical reception remained mixed, with audiences divided between those who enjoyed its campy, dramatic flair and those who found its tone erratic.
