Despite the numerous challenges he has overcome so far, Shidou Itsuka's mission with Ratatoskr is far from over. In a departure from his daily routine, Shidou encounters a starving woman lying on the street and ends up helping her. After the two arrive at her apartment, the woman introduces herself as Nia Honjou—a popular manga artist working under a pen name. However, cutting straight to the chase, Nia reveals that she is also a Spirit and is aware of Shidou's secret operation.
Interested in seeing his charisma firsthand, Nia challenges Shidou to win her over on a date. As he strives for an opportunity to seal her powers, Shidou learns more about Nia and her history with Deus Ex Machina Industries, a name he is all too familiar with...

Where it came from
Date A Live IV represents the fourth installment in the long-running anime adaptation of Koushi Tachibana's light novel series. Produced by studio GEEKTOYS and released in 2022, this season marked a significant production shift for the franchise, transitioning away from the previous studios that handled earlier seasons. The series continues the story of Shido Itsuka, who is tasked with sealing the powers of various Spirits, and the production team aimed to maintain the series' established aesthetic while adapting the Encore and Miku Lily arcs from the source material.
The design and animation direction for this season faced critical scrutiny due to the evolving visual expectations of the fanbase and the challenges inherent in mid-franchise studio transitions. Despite the change in production hands, the series retains the core character designs established by Tsunako, the original illustrator of the light novels, whose iconic character concepts have defined the franchise since its inception. While reception varied among viewers regarding the shift in art style, the season remains a critical piece of the broader Date A Live narrative tapestry.
